I had some computer issue happen a couple weeks ago to my 6 year old Dell. It would display on the screen, then it would go blank, then display, repeat. Did some tech support with Dell, and they said that it could be the video card going bad. I bought a new card, then had to buy a new power supply to gopower it. A friend came over to help with the installation of everything, and we found out that we couldn't put the new power supply in because the back of the Dell wasn't made to be modified (otherwords, the new power supply had a power switch on it and the back of the casing didn't fit it). Retuned the new power supply and got a different one that still didn't fit properly. Ended up taking the PC to Best Buy and had the Geek Squad hack saw out an opening in the back to accomodate the new supply. They also put in the new video card for me. After sitting in the Best Buy like someone in a Waiting Room in a hospital for 2 hours, the Geek Squad guy came up and despite putting in all the new devices, the PC was still DOA.
I picked out a new Gateway PC there (10% off since I bought there last floor model) and had them install the new supply (they returned the video card since the one in the GW was the same one I had bought), the other internal HD I had in the Dell, and copied over my remaining stuff on the Dell to the GW. After planning on only spending around $200 to fix this, I was about $900 in the hole. Ugh!
Luckily the old HD was still intact to copy over all of my songs, pics, fonts and other stuff. The new PC is cool, but it's Vista and I hate Vista! It doesn't properly run Manga Studio.
This along with other financial things that have happened over the past 2 months ($700 repair to my car that led to the repair shop scratching the paint on my roof as they PLACED THE BACK SEAT ONTOP OF IT, $1200 for a new water heater and installation after it leaked and flooded the downstairs neighbors kitchen ceiling, $900 for our own water damage repair [insurance paid $400 after my $500 deductible], airfare to SDCC, and before all of this happened, my wife and I went to Las Vegas for a couple days [go see Blue Man Group if you go!]) I am in short funds! So, to put it bluntly, I need some cash and I guess it's time to do some commissions.
